You notice the same thing, and go about it differently.
Three words in, and the other already sees the same picture. And yet these two often reach a point where they cannot acknowledge each other.
ENTP and ENFP compatibility in brief (love, work, friendship)
ENTP × ENFP is the Kindred relation, one of the sixteen. You notice the same thing, and go about it differently.
LoveAn agreement not to touch each other's sore spots, reasoning and relationships, works.WorkHolding things separately and pooling them works better.Friends & conversationFor a short time, the best.
Written as ENFP × ENTP it is the same pair. In 16Personalities terms, the Debater and the Campaigner.
In casual talk, only the two of you catch on the same point. Where you want to rest and where you overstrain are the same too. Over comfort, food, rest and pleasure, the two compete. In the place neither can provide, you want the same thing.
ENTP cares whether the argument holds together, and for ENFP talk of logic is the place they least want touched. ENFP cares who feels how, and for ENTP that talk is the place they least want touched. Each uses the hand they are most confident in, and since the other's limits are visible from the start, there is no restraint in the words.
There is no way this could fail to mesh, both think. So the drop when it does not is all the greater.
There are moments when you cannot acknowledge the other
ENTP's emotional outbursts frighten ENFP; ENFP's jokes read to ENTP as belittlement. Both fight for dominance and yield neither shared space nor resources. The observation calls it an "arm-wrestle", with no winner for years.
What breaks these two is not the other but repetition. Go somewhere neither knows, together, and it returns to normal that same day.
How each sees the other
ENTP → ENFP
Half a sentence gets through.
But their conclusions lean toward relationships.
And they wave things off with a joke. You feel belittled, and explode.
ENFP → ENTP
Half a sentence gets through.
But they poke at what does not hold together.
And they explode. You are frightened.
What has been recorded
SCENE 01Are you a psychologist?
ILE: "let me show you a new model of human relationships". IEE: "excuse me, but are you a psychologist?" IEE: "I'd like to show you how easily a girl believes it when you talk of love". ILE: "how can you trample into someone's heart like that?" A conversation from the old observations. One's free territory is where the other's jokes do not land.
SCENE 02Left in an institution, then seducing the stepfather
A recorded case of an IEE mother leaving her nine-year-old ILE daughter in an institution to pursue a romance; years later the daughter seduced the stepfather and drove the mother out of the house.
SCENE 03Eight years on, the same fight
An IEE mother forced her ILE daughter to attend painting classes; the daughter wrecked the lessons by clowning; eight years later, in another city, the same fight continued.
A pair on record
Jean-Jacques Rousseau (ILE) × Denis Diderot (IEE)
Typing: both types agree across several published sources
Close friends from the 1740s and collaborators on the Encyclopédie. Rousseau visited Diderot in prison, and on the way conceived his first major work. In 1757 Rousseau read a line in Diderot's play, "only the wicked man is alone", as a jab at himself, and the next year they broke. They never reconciled.
What matches: a joke reading as belittlement; an arm-wrestle lasting years with no reconciliation.
Love, living together, work, family: scene by scene
ConversationFor a short time, the best.
RomanceAn agreement not to touch each other's sore spots, reasoning and relationships, works.
Living togetherYou compete for comfort and rest. Regularly scheduling time out changes it.
WorkHolding things separately and pooling them works better.
FamilyBetween parent and child, the arm-wrestle lasts ten years.
If you keep going
Do not aim talk of logic and character at each other
Just removing these two from the agenda changes the relationship.
Check a joke once
There is a case of two who broke over one line.
Do not repeat the same topic
Go somewhere neither knows, together, and it comes back that same day.
For these two
How to meet ── Working on the same problem
A relation that notices the same things. Committees, projects, helping with a move. The person who said "isn't this weird?" at the same moment: that is the one.
Approach ── Leave the method to them
You notice the same things, and proceed differently. Push your own steps and you quarrel. Split the jobs and do not comment on their way.
A date ── A day with roles
Cooking together, DIY, planning a trip. With a purpose, these two are at ease. Time without a purpose feels a little long.
Gifts ── for ENTP, Comfort; for ENFP, Comfort
For ENTP: A good blanket, good food, things that ease the body. What ENTP does not buy for themselves. For ENFP: Good food, something pleasant to the touch. The comfort ENFP does not arrange alone.
PROne thing for this relation
A relation that notices the same thing and proceeds differently, so tools to align the method.
Because each one's most practised way lands on the other's most painful place.
We have had the same fight for years
The arm-wrestle produces no winner, the observation says.
They look like a good person with other people
When the other's hand is not aimed at you, they look plainly good.
What is ENTP and ENFP compatibility in love?
An agreement not to touch each other's sore spots, reasoning and relationships, works. More under "Love, living together, work, family: scene by scene" and "If you keep going".
Do ENTP and ENFP work well together?
Holding things separately and pooling them works better. More under "Love, living together, work, family: scene by scene" and "If you keep going".
This pair is the kindred relation, one of the sixteen. How the relation itself arises, and how to tell it from the others, is on the relation page.
The two Model A's: what talks to what
ENTP on the left, ENFP on the right. Each shows where the eight elements sit; lines connect the same element. Where each line starts and ends decides what happens in this relation.
Lines connect the same element in the other person's structure. 1–2 (strong) 3 (role) 4 (vulnerable) 5–6 (wanted) 7–8 (capable, indifferent)
1 → 1NeENTP's 1 (leading) Ne (extraverted intuition) sits in ENFP's position 1 (leading). Both strong here. Same ground: fast understanding, and some rivalry.
2 → 4TiENTP's 2 (creative) Ti (introverted logic) sits in ENFP's position 4 (vulnerable). What ENTP does as a matter of course lands on ENFP's sore spot. Pressure without malice.
3 → 3SeENTP's 3 (role) Se (extraverted sensing) sits in ENFP's position 3 (role). Both weak. The same thing goes wrong for both.
4 → 2FiENTP's 4 (vulnerable) Fi (introverted ethics) sits in ENFP's position 2 (creative). ENFP leads exactly where ENTP is weak. ENTP feels seen through.
5 → 5SiENTP's 5 (suggestive) Si (introverted sensing) sits in ENFP's position 5 (suggestive). Both want it, neither has it. Must come from outside.
6 → 8FeENTP's 6 (mobilizing) Fe (extraverted ethics) sits in ENFP's position 8 (demonstrative). ENFP could give it but does not think to. Comes when ENTP asks in words.
7 → 7NiENTP's 7 (ignoring) Ni (introverted intuition) sits in ENFP's position 7 (ignoring). Both capable, both indifferent. Left alone.
8 → 6TeENTP's 8 (demonstrative) Te (extraverted logic) sits in ENFP's position 6 (mobilizing). ENTP has what ENFP wants without noticing. Appears only when asked.
